Did you know? An Angus Reid survey in May 1997 found that: * A majority of Canadians perceive the millennium as "an opportunity for 'serious' reflection and priority-setting for the next century." * Over 80% of Canadians feel it is important that millennium activities be located "within community." * Over 85% of Canadians prefer millennium activities "involving familty and friends." * Over 80% of view "community-based projects where people volunteer"as either a good or excellent idea. The 1997 National Survey on Giving, Volunteering and Partnerships found that: * that about 8 in 10 Canadians give money to charitable or non-profit organizations * 31.4% of Canadians volunteer their time, compared to 26.8% in 1987 * some 14% of those volunteers aged 15 to 64 say that their volunteer experience helped them obtain employment - the figures rise to 24% for younger volunteers aged 15 to 24 * women made up 57% of the volunteers and men 43% * that 2001 is The International Year of Volunteers |
